Shop Manager - Manufacturing Industry
Founded in 1900, our PennDrill Manufacturing division in Winchester, VA, manufactures high-end grout mixers, pumps, and silos for the heavy foundation and other construction industries.
We seek a Shop Manager who is responsible for, but not limited to, supervising all shop staff and maintaining the readiness of all shop equipment and the warehouse facility. This includes functions such as: the supervision and training and evaluation of the shop staff in receipt, inspection, maintenance/cleanliness of all equipment, configuration of equipment for client rental and or sale and maintenance of the general warehouse facility. Responsible for acting as the lead shop contributor in manufacturing and training on new equipment along with providing technical support to customers.
Specifically, you will:
- Provide hands-on direction, guidance, training and supervision on the shop floor to subordinate employees.
- Oversee dispatch/logistics functions to ensure efficient operation of the department.
- Supervise and coordinate all activities related to the manufacturing process and procedures.
- Provide timely support to address any customer service needs.
- Ensure that all company paperwork is completed timely, accurately and in accordance with Company requirements.
- Identify and implement procedural changes that improve the department's overall performance.
- Confer with management to discuss operational challenges, issues and opportunities.
- Support the individual department heads in maintaining the Company’s equipment manuals to provide technical specifications to clients and employees, as required.
- Participate in hiring, promotion, transfer and discharge process This includes, but is not limited to direct employee training and cross-training of new, existing employees and interns, Prepare and conduct coaching and counseling sessions and disciplinary discussions and/or letters in conjunction with the Operations Manager.
- Participate in the annual evaluation of subordinate employees in conjunction with the Operations Manager.
- Educate, comply and enforce all Safety procedures.
- Technical knowledge of machinery and equipment used in the shop and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve machine-related issues.
- Ability to interpret blueprints and technical diagrams, ensuring accuracy and consistency in production output.
- Proficient in quality control procedures and understanding of lean manufacturing principles to improve production efficiency and reduce wastage.
- Ability to ensure adherence to health and safety regulations, minimizing risk of accidents and maintaining a safe working environment.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to interact effectively with the workforce, fostering a productive and positive working environment.
- Strong managerial skills to oversee the daily operations of the machine shop, ensuring that all tasks are completed in an efficient and timely manner.
- Strong communication skills to effectively discuss job priorities, safety protocols, and shop policies with staff members, and to liaise with suppliers and customers.
